Google parent Alphabet Inc. is discussing acquiring cybersecurity startup Wiz Inc. Potentially making it the tech giant’s largest acquisition to date. The deal could be valued at up to $23 billion. An agreement has not yet been finalized. Representatives for Alphabet and Wiz declined to comment on the potential transaction.
This development comes shortly after Alphabet halted efforts to acquire HubSpot Inc., amid heightened scrutiny from antitrust regulators. Alphabet's acquisition of Wiz would mark a significant move in its strategy to strengthen its cloud business, where it lags behind Microsoft and Amazon. Wiz, founded in 2020 and valued at $12 billion in a recent funding round, specializes in cloud security, identifying and mitigating risks in cloud storage environments.
This deal would build on Alphabet’s $5.4 billion acquisition of cybersecurity firm Mandiant Inc. in 2022.
